Custom Card Game Design

About Us

Adventares

Adventares is a mashup of the usernames Advent and Antares, the contributors to this blog.  The purpose of the blog is to provide a place to discuss card game design and to showcase our custom projects both past, present, and future.  Since MtG was created in 1993, the game has had a very active and growing community, and these days a big part of that community is comprised of novice designers, a hobby that has become even more legitimate since the first Great Designer Search (and made increasingly popular by its follow-up.)

Here on the blog you’ll find posts that cover discussion on MtG design, discussions over single custom cards, or progressive previews of our current projects.   You’ll also read posts regarding other projects we may be working on – including projects from other games, other IPs, or even entirely unique projects.  Readers are highly encouraged to post feedback and comments, as discussion is the best part of blogging!

Advent

Advent is the username of contributor Russ Henderson (And the name of the game shop he hopes to put in – Advent Games).   Still very much an amateur designer, his goal is to use the blog to document the steps he takes to improve as a designer, with the end goal of competing as a finalist in the eventual Great Designer Search 3.  His current project is the Dareth block, an exercise in bottom-up design that focuses on tactical creature combat.

You can find Advent on Twitter @AdventMtG

Antares

Antares is the username of contributor Martin Schwesinger (also known as Apoquallyp on MTGSalvation). His current projects are the Iamur block, a block that takes place completely underwater and the space-fantasy trading-card-game ‘Conquest of Orion’

You can E-Mail Antares at martin_schwesinger@gmx.de

Can one of you contact me? I’m a game designer myself and it looks like we’ve both unknowingly used ‘Conquest of Orion’ as the title of our game. Can we discuss?

Just saw one of your planeswalkers on a google image search for MtG cards. A bit more googling brought me here and I love your blog! Do you both just do your own sets?

I’d still love to do a joint project sometime, I just can’t seem to keep from having disappear for weeks at a time.
